Nasal Cautery

This procedure is carried out by one of our ENT Consultants to stop or prevent nosebleeds. The cost of nose cauterisation includes the consultation and the nasal cauterisation. We take a deposit for this appointment. If it is decided during the appointment that Nasal Cautery is not appropriate you will pay no further fees.

Nasal cautery may be recommended to stop or prevent nosebleeds. If an anteriorly located blood vessel can be identified on the nasal septum this can be performed.

Nasal Cautery is a simple procedure that is performed with local anaesthesia.

Our ENT Specialist applies a silver nitrate stick to the bleed point for up to 10 seconds. This seals the blood vessel. This is nasal cauterisation.

Nasal cautery can cause itching and pain for a few days. Avoid touching or scratching the inside of your nose. Also, try your best not to have any accidents after nose cauterisation such as a bump.

An After-care advice leaflet /advice will be given following nose cauterisation.

Ear Wax Removal

Microsuction is the gold standard for ear wax removal.

Ear Microsuction is performed by our ENT surgeons, Mr. Sachin patil to remove earwax using a microscope and suction. Mr Sachin patil is specialist ear, nose, and throat consultant.

He also offers Endoscopic Microsuction.

Whilst removing wax, the ear canal and drum are viewed under the microscope. Ear wax removal using microsuction takes 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

There is no extra cost for both ears to have ear wax microsuction

Ear wax is removed with a microscope and suction by our ENT Consultants. ar Microsuction is performed with you lying down on a bed with your head tilted to the side. You can have both ears treated in one appointment.

In contrast to ear irrigation or syringing, which flush out earwax “blindly,” microsuction with a microscope enables the removal of earwax to be immediately observed under the microscope. As a result, the patient is significantly safer and more at ease during the treatment.

Recent guidance from NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) states that ear syringing should no longer be used. As a result, alternatives such as Microsuction with an ENT Consultant is the gold standard.Also endoscopic Microsuction which is equally safe and effective can be carried out.

Ear Wax can cause earache, hearing loss, dizziness, nausea, and tinnitus (ringing in your ears).

Nasal Endoscopy

Mr Sachin Patil performs nasal Endoscopy to visualise the sinus and nasal passages using state of the art flexible, thin endoscope which has a tiny camera and light.

The nasal endoscope is inserted through the nose, and guided through the nasal and sinus passage, the images are displayed on the screen.The ENT Consultant can clearly see the inside of the nasal and sinus space and show you what can be seen on the screen to diagnose the ENT problem you have. This procedure also enables the consultant to take a sample/biopsy etc.

If you have any of the below ENT conditions – a nasal endoscopy may be required:

• Infections in the nasal and sinus area
• Nasal polyps
• Rhinosinusitis
• Suspected nasal tumour
• Recurring nose bleeds
• Nasal congestion
• Nasal blockages

As with any minor medical procedure there are risks – although nasal endoscopy is safe. Risks are nosebleeds and fainting.

You will be able to go home/return to work after the procedure and resume normal activities.

Nasal Polyps

These tiny tissue growths, which develop inside the sinuses and nasal passages, can impair a person’s ability to breathe, taste or smell, and create a runny nose. Our ENT specialist Mr Sachin Patil treats these.

Facial Discomfort

Dizziness and Vertigo

Tongue Tie

A tongue tie in a new-born baby is often picked up by doctors and midwives shortly after birth. A tongue tie can make feeding difficult.

What is Tongue Tie?

A tongue Tie is a tongue Knot existing from birth. It interferes with the tongue’s ability to move, and in certain situations, a baby’s tongue can make feeding or latching difficult.

If untreated, the child’s poor tongue movements may potentially have an impact on their speech as they get older.

Tongue Tie Symptoms

There are a few symptoms you may watch out for if you are concerned that your child may have a tongue tie – for example, latching, sucking, feeding difficulties.

Issues with Breastfeeding

You might observe that your baby has trouble latching on and starting a breastfeeding relationship. Short feeds itself could cause pain and suffering for the mother.

Difficulty in tongue movement

Tongue Tie Assessment

Your baby’s potential tongue tie can be evaluated by one of our ENT surgeons. Our consultants will be able to perform a tongue tie division procedure that day. This is a surgical procedure that is performed by a highly skilled ENT specialist in a clean, safe setting.

The anterior (front) tongue tie can be corrected by our ENT surgeon.

The baby is encouraged to feed once the tongue tie has been released. After that, before sending you home, our ENT consultant will examine the tongue tie site.

Tongue Tie Surgery

Surgery for your new-born may seem frightening, but tongue tie surgery, also known as tongue tie division, is a quick and easy process. To allow the tongue to move freely, the frenulum, a portion of tissue that connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth, must be severed using sterile surgical scissors. You can start feeding your baby right away after performing it the correction which only takes a few seconds.

This technique is well tolerated by babies.

Mr Sachin patil provides this service at Knapton House on a Wednesday for babies between 2 and 12 weeks.

There is a 3-4% chance the tongue tie can re-attach following corrective tongue tie surgery. If parents feel the tongue tie has re-attached – please ask us to organise a free of charge review with the surgeon who performed the procedure.
